Wrecking Ball

I can see why people love this but it didn't grab me the way I expected.

Wrecking Ball

There are about six really good songs here buried in an album that's twelve tracks too long. The edit would be excellent but as presented, it's a patience-testing listen that rewards skipping around.

No Love Deep Web

A thoroughly enjoyable listen from start to finish.

Map of the Soul: 7

Worth a listen but doesn't demand repeat plays.

I keep seeing this on 'best of' lists and I honestly think people are just copying each other's homework at this point. There's nothing here that hasn't been done better elsewhere. The emperor has no clothes and the praise is baffling.

I've written and deleted this review probably five times now because I keep feeling like I'm not doing it justice. How do you review something that feels this essential? Every time I think I've identified what makes it great, I notice something else. The interplay between the instruments. The way the dynamics shift. The moments of silence that hit harder than any note. I think what makes this a genuine masterpiece rather than just a very good album is its sense of completeness. It doesn't feel like a collection of songs — it feels like a world you step into. And when it's over, you feel genuinely different than when you started. Not many albums can claim that.

I've introduced maybe a dozen friends to this album and every single one of them has become a fan. That kind of universal appeal combined with genuine artistic depth is incredibly rare. This is the real deal.

Peak creative output from an artist at the top of their game.

A few tracks could have been cut without losing anything, but what's here is largely excellent. The production is gorgeous and the performances are top-notch. One of the better albums I've heard recently.

Started strong but lost me in the back half. The opening three tracks had me excited and then it just sort of coasts on autopilot. Would have been a much stronger EP than it is an album.

A monumental achievement in every sense.

American Football (LP2)

This is fine but I expected more given the critical consensus.

American Football (LP2)

Impressive range shown here — from quiet intimacy to explosive catharsis.

The Who Sell Out

I respect the ambition but this doesn't work for me.

The Who Sell Out

The singles are obvious highlights but the deep cuts are excellent too.

The Who Sell Out

Middle of the road for this artist. Not bad by any means but not essential.

I Put a Spell on You

I want to like this more than I do. There are three or four tracks here that are genuinely excellent — inventive, well-produced, emotionally resonant. But the album as a whole doesn't sustain that level. The middle section in particular feels like it's treading water, and the closing track, while ambitious, goes on too long. That said, I do think this is worth hearing. At its best, it shows real creative vision, and even the weaker tracks have interesting ideas in them. It just needed a more ruthless editing pass to trim the good from the great.

I Put a Spell on You

Some interesting ideas here that don't always pan out. You can tell they were trying to push in a new direction and I respect that, even if the results are mixed. A couple of tracks are genuinely great.

I Put a Spell on You

Took a few listens to click but now I can't stop playing it.
