Rust in Peace

A landmark release that deserves every bit of praise it gets.

The production is excellent but the songwriting doesn't always match up.

Took me three listens to fully appreciate what was happening here but once it clicked, it really clicked. The layering is incredible — you hear new things every time. A rich, rewarding album that demands your attention.

This is one of those albums where even the deep cuts could be singles. The level of quality control here is insane. You can tell every decision was agonized over and it shows in the final product. A genuine landmark.

Enjoyable but not groundbreaking. Good for what it is.

Some great moments here but it doesn't quite sustain over the full runtime.

Some interesting ideas here that don't always pan out. You can tell they were trying to push in a new direction and I respect that, even if the results are mixed. A couple of tracks are genuinely great.

Decent album with a handful of really excellent tracks. The problem is the material between those peaks isn't compelling enough to hold your attention. Worth cherry-picking the highlights for a playlist.

The kind of album that makes you want to pick up an instrument.
